KUMC Convenes Statewide Advisory Board

The University of Kansas Medical Center Institute for Community Engagement and Office of Rural Medical Education announce the formation of a Statewide Advisory Board (SAB). The Board was created to advise KUMC outreach leadership on its numerous engaged scholarship initiatives in education, research and clinical care across Kansas, many of which are facilitated by the Institute for Community Engagement and the Office of Rural Medical Education.
The SAB will also help identify statewide and community health issues of interest, service or education needs, and help improve overall coordination of KUMC outreach activities. The Board is co-chaired by Ryan Spaulding, PhD, Vice Chancellor of the Institute and Michael Kennedy, MD, Associate Dean for Rural Medical Education.

The Board includes medicine, nursing, health professions and community member representatives from communities around the state and held its first meeting March 4th in Wichita. Topics discussed included a proposed statewide health care workforce study, a rural medical education planning meeting and a statewide communications tool from KUMC. Future meetings are planning on a quarterly basis and as needed by videoconference. For more information about the board or if you have an interest in participating, please contact Ryan Spaulding, PhD at
