March 30 - Women's Health Symposium, Hays

The Women's Health Symposium is designed to update health care professionals on women's health issues including heart disease, breast cancer, menopause and other topics.

The symposium is a joint effort between HaysMed, KU Medical Center Continuing Education and Professional Development and KU Area Health Education Centers.

Objectives:
Following this program, the participants can be expected to:
   1. Recognize signs and symptoms of heart attack.
   2. Recognize differences in presentation for women with heart disease.
   3. Have a better understanding of breast health.
   4. Discuss interventions for management of obesity before and during pregnancy.
   5. Discuss prenatal care to the obese patient.
   6. Identify factors affecting female participation in various physical activities and health strategies.
   7. Adequately counsel patients on options for management of menopause.
   8. Describe postmenopausal screening of menopausal symptoms guidelines appropriately.
   9. Recognize interpersonal violence as a healthcare issue.
   10. Discuss routine abuse screening and identification of lethality risk factors
   11. Explore situations which may require mandatory reporting.
   12. Identify resources for victims of interpersonal violence screening for patients with mitral regurgitation and congestive heart failure that may benefit from consideration of percutaneous mitral valve repair.
