Teacher Summer Externship slated for June 14-16

Once again, the KU Medical Center Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is hosting its annual Teacher Summer Externship. The program serves as part of AHEC’s goal of boosting health care education in rural Kansas by providing a learning experience for health career pathways teachers across the state.

This year’s externship will be held June 14-16 on the campus of KU Medical Center. Participation in this three-day program is free to teachers. During the program, participants will get hands-on lessons from several departments within KU Medical Center, including the School of Nursing skills lab, the Hoglund Brain Imaging Center, the Orthopedic Research Lab and many more.

This year, 15 teachers, including one from Columbia, Missouri, will take part in the externship. Participants this year include:

Kristi Blair - Girard High School - Girard, Kansas
Erin Hayes - Blue Valley Center for Advanced Professional Studies - Overland Park, Kansas
Mark Padfield - Tonganoxie High School - Tonganoxie, Kansas
Pesha Ptacek - Southeast of Saline - Gypsum, Kansas
Kim Hoover - Herington High School - Herington, Kansas
Tara George - Tonganoxie High School - Tonganoxie, Kansas
