KU Medical Center students volunteer their time and energy on community service days

Legions of students armed with paint brushes, shovels, rakes, gloves and reading glasses painted houses, toiled in gardens, cleaned buildings and read to children during a pair of community service days at the University of Kansas Medical Center and the KU School of Medicine's campuses in Salina and Wichita.

The weather may have been hot and steamy but spirits were high as more than 310 incoming students clad in blue "We Are KU" T-shirts took to the streets of Wyandotte County, Salina and Wichita to volunteer as part of the traditional community service days.
