KU Medical Center dean visits Pittsburg area

Sally Maliski, Ph.D., dean of the University of Kansas School of Nursing, traveled to Pittsburg, Kansas on October 6, 2016, to learn more about the southeast part of the state and the people who live in the area.

As someone who is new to Kansas, Dr. Maliski said her main goal for the trip was to learn about the overall health of the Pittsburg area as well as local health care needs. She added it is important for the KU School of Nursing to prepare nurses to meet the varied health care needs of Kansans.

Her first stop was a tour of the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas where she met with Krista Postai, CEO and Jason Wesco, COO. The next stop was Pittsburg State University. While on campus, Dr. Maliski met with Cheryl Giefer, Ph.D., professor and associate director in the Irene Ransom Bradley School of Nursing, Mary Carol Pomatto, Ed.D., professor and interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and director of the Irene Ransom Bradley School of Nursing, and Dr. Lynette Olson, provost of Pittsburg State University. The final stop was Via Christi-Pittsburg where she met with Tawny Sandifer, CNO, Janelle Wade, director of women’s services and education and Cheryl Craig, director of inpatient services.
