Esteemed KU Medical Center Pediatric Neurologist, Dr. Enrique Chaves, Retires

Dr. Enrique Chaves, one of the first telemedicine providers in Kansas, is retiring.

His telemedicine outreach clinics throughout the state have helped numerous families who otherwise could not access health care services. He is much-admired as an exceptional clinician, innovator, author and medical history buff. He is also well recognized as an excellent teacher across professional and community audiences.

One of his many notable career accomplishments includes writing one of the first teleneurology case studies in the 1990s. Dr. Chaves has continued to publish research, including an article in Pediatric Neurology last month titled “Pediatric Teleneurology: A Model of Epilepsy Care for Rural Populations” by Sarah E. Velasquez, Enrique Chaves-Carballo & Eve-Lynn Nelson. This article was nominated for the Elsevier Atlas award, which is given to 10 articles per month selected from Elsevier’s 1,800 journals covering all topics of research.

Congratulations to Dr. Chaves on his retirement!
