Health Occupations Students of America spring conference returns to Pittsburg

For a second consecutive year, the 2017 Kansas Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Spring Conference will be held at Pittsburg State University. This year’s conference will be held March 27-29, 2017.

This growing event will bring more than 250 students to Pittsburg State University from more than 20 high schools across Kansas.  Students compete in healthcare-related events ranging from forensics to nursing skills and everything in between. All student participants have an interest in pursuing careers in the healthcare field.

The conference will begin the evening of Monday, March 27 with students completing online testing, which is a required component to participate in the events. Tuesday morning, March 28, will begin with formal Opening Ceremonies before the competition kicks off. Students will take part in more than 50 challenges related to leadership, emergency preparedness, health professions and health science. Students are tested on their knowledge of health careers, nursing skills, first-aid skills, research and more. Competitive events will continue the morning of March 29. The conference will conclude with an award ceremony recognizing every student who placed in the top three of their competition.

The KU Medical Center Area Health Education Center (AHEC) has supported the facilitation of this conference for three years, including judging the various competitions. In the last three years, AHEC and the Kansas HOSA organization have developed a great relationship over the mutual goal of promoting health careers in Kansas.

Students who place at the Kansas HOSA Conference will have the opportunity to compete against students nationally at the 2017 National HOSA Conference in Orlando, Florida in June. For additional information about HOSA, visit
